Morning Edition - 3/9/07

No Sayonara for Sanjaya; American Idol Top 12
American Idol season six is well underway and whether you admit it or not, you’re watching. Truth be told, I’m DVRing the darn show this season. Last night, America narrowed the contestants down and although some would say that there were two flagrant surprises, most of those axed were expected. One pleasant surprise – for me – was Sanjaya Malakar. The 17-year old Malakar beat-out resident boiled ham, Sundance Bighead…I mean Head, for a place in the top 12. Say what you will, but Malakar could be mute at this point for all I care, as long as we keep that angelic face and coy persona front and center each week. My pic for the win is powerhouse background singer, Melinda Doolittle. Wednesday night she performed Woman and blew the house down – see

Okay, so she may resemble one of the flying monkeys on The Wiz and harkens images of Stephanie Mills – the misshapen body and pre-cosmetic work look - but her voice is destined to take her to the end of that gold-brick road.

On Blast
Who is your favorite Idol contestant this year and who is your pick to win?

Keep passin’ the open windows…

Two things…
First, Sanjaya is a grown man and by US laws is at the age of consent in virtually any state (including DC and NY) – please refer to http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm Actually, even though Kahlua is joking and yes, Sanjaya is a bit young for my “real life” taste, I’ve come across some folks who have completely bashed some adult male bloggers for mentioning how attractive Sanjaya is and even referred to them as pedophiles. For clarification sake, he may be lacking facial hair and a full-dose of testosterone to deepen that voice, but our little fragile beauty is well within the age to be enjoyed vocally and otherwise…LOL

Second, Melinda Doolittle is my absolute favorite with the linebacker, Lakisha (sp), following close second. Odd… my favorite vocalists are also folks I don’t want to look at, while the dreamy folks can’t sing worth a lick!

Yes I watch and I am getting board. Melinda can sang, but she needs the jew'ries and dresses. Lakisha can sing too, but I don't like to look at her nor her loud family. WHY?!?!?!

Does anyone know what happened to the girl that auditioned on roller skates?

The young black girl that sang B last week and Chaka this week is just ok to me...she needs to find her own

The guys are boring me and when it's proven they lack the skills I usually find joy in just looking at them...not this season though. I love Sanjaya's hair...on his sister maybe.

First of all, you will NEVER call Lakisha a linebacker lmao..she lives like 15 minutes down the way from me!! And I love Melinda, crazy shape and facial features, and all! SANJAYA..YESSSSS!!! He is unusually beautiful...like I just look at him like, "you are gorgeous, can you be my bottom?" It's a damn shame that my boyfriend Jared C. got cut yesterday though. It's ok, now that he's home he can spend more time with me and he can work on getting me pregnant like we always planned..I just don't like his eyebrows...I can work around that though. anyways..I've said my piece. xoxoxoxo

Your commentors are a mess! Hilarious! So, I hate Sanjaya - I don't like him at all. He can't sing. But we all know that Stephanie Edwards, Lakisha Jones, and Melinda Doolittle are rocking the house. My favorite guys was AJ Tabaldo - but he got cut.

Yea, what did happen to that girl that auditioned on roller skates?

Y'all need to leave Melinda alone!! Flying Monkey? Mother of all children big and small! That was soooo wrong.

She does have an interesting look..but so did P. Labelle (don't you just love those "one touch" commericials? who knew diabetes could be so soulfull) and J. Holiday wasn't a prize either.

Sanjaya may surprise everyone. He has a voice, he just needs to get over his nerves--he always seems terrified. I think he's holding back and if he ever begins to feel himself--people will be shocked. And how can you say no to that big smile?

Favorite Male (for now):Chris Sligh
Favorite Female: Melinda Doolittle

Just stumbled on your blog this morning and I must say that your readers are hilarious! These comments! lol and you with that linebacker comment LMAO!!! Lakisha needs to do only 2 things to win this competition: 1) smile more 2)leave her Mom and Aunt at home. Those 2 need to leave the E&J alone!!!

Leniere ... you're right, Sanjaya got an Angelic voice, he's just been giving in to his nerves. And hell, he's 17. How many of us could stand before Simon and sing with confidence? Diana Ross is supposed to be coaching the final 12 so maybe she can teach him how to maximize his voice, to shine and be a true DIVA.

When he hits his stride, he's gonna shock everyone. As it stands now, I'd buy his CD (and not just because I wanna eat him out). I like sweet voices and mellow sounds and don't always want the tear the house down vocal powerhouses.

On another note:

I'm getting tired of this double standard when it comes to older people lusting after younger ones. When its hetero, its cool. When its homo, suddenly its perverse and predatory. Get over it folks.

If the man can enlist in the army at 17 and die for my country, then I should be able to hit it without people saying I'm a predator.

Oh, and one more thing,

Melinda Dolittle is my pick to win. Miss Ross will not doubt give her some style advice as to how to best work her short torso.

Every outfit ain't fo' every body. (lol)

Not only should they not put her in shoulder pads...a turtle neck will make her disappear! I think no-neck Melinda will take the crown this year.

My issue with Sanjaya is that he doesn't even look like he's trying. It's almost like he wants to be voted off. Every week he survives he's in shock (and so is the general puplic!). Between the Indian and gay votes, he might as well just come out and sing the abc's and he'll still make the top 5 (at the very least). This is the problem I have with the show. People put whom they want through, with no reference to talent or marketability. ...and sadly, I can't stop watching the show (though i stopped last year, once Chris was voted off! where is last years winner anyway? arrrrgh!). I must also say that the best singers (4 black females) will not all make it to the top. At an early point they will be splitting the Black and Popular votes and some cheesy person will squeeze right through and bump one of them off. My faves: La and Mel.

Darious and I are on the same page here. I CAN NOT STAND Sanjaya. In fact, he creeps me out. I was so hot when AJ got kicked off because he blows that little boy out of the water. I honestly don't get the attraction. But hey, I liked Jared C (even though some say he looked like Bert from Sesame street)and his cheesy face moves.
And despite her no neckedness I'm rooting for Ms. Doolittle cause *wait for it* she does a lot for me. *ducks and runs*
