Idol Proves Looks Aren’t Everything
At the start of season five of American Idol, contestant Taylor Hicks appeared to be an unlikely candidate for the show and a sure-fire cast-off. His gray hair and oddly Ray-Charles-ish personality made it almost impossible for anyone to predict he’d make any connection with the young target audience of Idol. Last night, however, showed how your looks and physique are not necessarily the only factors for success. Hicks seemed to wield his personality all season long and captured the hearts of America winning the coveted title of American Idol.

Let the Summer Begin
This weekend marks the start of summer 2006. As we all know too well, summer is the season that flies by the fastest and we’re left looking back from our Labor Day perches wondering what happened to the warmest 90-or-so days of the year. This is your chance folks. Take a moment to plan ahead for summer fun. Beach weekends, outdoor activities – even camping, can be a part of your agenda. Memorial weekend is also Black Pride Weekend in Washington, DC. Men and women of color flock from all over the country to congregate in our nations Chocolate City to enjoy the gayest weekend of color in the northeast. So let the games begin! Bring on the sun and take summer 2006 by the horns!

On Blast
…and cut! You’ve been thinking about it for a while, but don’t know how or when to do it. It’s time to do it now though and you can feel it in your deepest recesses. What do you intend to cut-out of your life this summer – and hopefully for good? What do you believe your biggest challenge is for keeping it out of your life? What makes you so sure it must be eradicated from your life?

Keep passin’ the open windows…

I plan to CUT worhtless friends. The one's that need everything and have nothing. the one's that don't hesitate you call you to borrow money, but never have a dime for you when your in need. The one's that live for today and ask for a hand-up tomorrow.

I got my blade and damn-it, I'm gonna use it.

I plan to cut fried-foods. I have been on a healthy eating planning (Weight Watchers) and have lost close to 15 pounds. Not only do the fried foods add weight but they also raise cholesterol and blood pressure. My biggest challenges are french fries and fried fish. I’m not much of a chicken person so fried chicken isn’t much of a concern. I'm not quite ready for the gym but I am willing to supervise my eating habits by cutting the grease!

First, the obvious cut is cigarettes. They have been my best friend and worst enemy for over 20 years. Unless you are or have been a smoker, you can’t possibly recognize the enormous powers this addiction has over its victims. In light of the fact that I’m living healthier, it’s time to drop the puff-box for good.

On a more subtle plane, I’m cutting situations and people who do not serve to enrich me. We all have them in our lives… the negative folks who don’t have anything good to say about themselves or others; always broke; always unhappy; turning their nose up every time I do anything that is fun, different or exciting; finding every fault in my personality, appearance and friendship….rather than make a big stink, I’ll very quietly step back – one step, then another, then another; until there’s finally no connection. Sometimes, cutting doesn’t have to be done with butcher knife, it can be done with a fine, but sharp scalpel.

I don't care if Taylor Hicks knows how to sing - the man is just so cheesy and the complete antithesis of sexy that all I can do is laugh when he's performing. Also, if he's 29, then I'm a virgin (with a 16 y.o. son!) LOL

As for what I'm planning on cutting out of my life...tada! my credit card debt. I have been sticking to my budget fairly well (mostly because I'm broke) but seriously, I've stopped using my credit cards and am just working on paying off the balances which should take me a couple of years but dammit I'm committed. I've been living way above my means since my first job at 19 so it's going to be an uphill battle but I will be the victor!

My son is headed off to college in two years and I cannot be as in debt then as I am now. Since I cannot count on his deadbeat dad for financial support, I have to do it all by myself but that's okay because I'm grateful that I have a gorgeous, healthy, intelligent son that loves me.

The fat, the lard, the emotional baggage maifesting istelf in my mid section and the backs of my thighs. If Ms. Jackson can lose 60 lbs in four months I can lose 40 in three. Where there is a will there is a way...time is going to be my friend. I will make time for time and myself. I have to cut out self soothing with food. And yes, cut out people who don't have the same values as I do. This way, we won't disappoint each other going forward.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my son Cameron is doing fine. For a recap he had to have surgery to move his intestine out of a herniated spot. Now because he is four he is trying to play and he is waking up in some pain but he is okay. Thank you all that prayed for him and those in my family

SUPER DONYA! I'm so glad Cam is doing fine. Yes, many of us prayed for him and I've been waiting for an update for a few days now. God is good - ALL THE TIME!

Donya
I know your pain and I am sorry I am just reading about it now....
God Bless little Cameron!!!!!!

My son Derrick was only 7 months when I nearly lost him. His intestine backed up and twisted on itself. By the time I found it he already had gangrene. But I spent the night on my knees while he was in surgery and God pulled him through.

Take care of yourself Donya. Drink plenty of fluid and eat healthy food. You can wear yourself down and become really sick from the stress.

You and your little guy will be in my prayers.

Love,
Colleen

The soul patrol ???
WHAT GIRL? You and I both know you will not be running out to buy the 24 y/o senior citizen CD. Hell that Mo’fo looks so old they may just cut some vinyl for his ass and press a 78 speed album just to match his look.
