Morning Edition - 5/1/07

Easier Said Than Heard
I know how difficult it is to have that friend in crisis that insists on focusing on one subject until you feel that their every word is grating on your very last nerve. It’s not that you don’t care about them or their dilemma; it’s just hard to hear. I think we feel our friend needs to get it out and it’s our place to hear it, but damn if you don’t wish the process would be short-lived. It pains me to say, I am that friend right now. Those who really know me know that as extroverted as I am, I hate the feeling of vulnerability. I will often deal with enormous obstacles alone to avoid asking for help or sharing my plight when I’m at my most fragile. So, as I live through one of the toughest personal family dramas I’ve encountered since leaving my home at 15, I’ve become incensed with having my closest friends understand what I’m going through. I appreciate their listening to my plight. I know it’s been hard to deal with the more raw and exposed Cocoa, rather than the entertaining, invincible one that is usually there for everyone else. I guess we all have lessons to learn and mine is that I’m never comfortable sharing my vulnerability and a skipping record – regardless of how much we love the tune – will get annoying.

24
There are 24 days until my much needed San Juan Brothas Puerto Rico vacation. The last three weeks has been a bit of a betray-and-sabotage period. First, I suffered a groin pull, then I found myself with a bottomless-pit of an appetite. The combination of lighter workouts and heavier caloric intake has added a solid 6-8 pounds to my mid section and has undermined my winter workouts. In light of all that, it’s time to take control of the situation and make it better. My goal is to lose 10 in 24. That’s right; I intend to be 148 lbs. by the time I leave for my vacation on the 24th of this month. Beginning today, I’m cutting all carbs outside of breakfast and eliminating all the snacking that I’ve been happily partaking of. In addition, I’m returning to my 6-days-on-1-day-off gym schedule. I suspect with my current stress load, focusing on something I can fully control will help me meet my goal.

On Blast
If you could pick up and successfully move to any city in the U.S., where would you go? Why?

Keep passin’ the open windows…

San Francisco. I've been there about 3 times and I think it's a cool place. It's not too hot, not to cold. It is expensive, but no more than New York...and the place seems pretty liberal.

I know you didn't ask us, but isn't 150 just as good as 148? Is it possible that the groin injury is your body asking you to give it a break? I respect the discipline you clearly have, and as someone who doesn't have a close relationship with a gym, I'm clearly in no position to judge, but...I just a little worried. But, I guess...at the end of the day, if you are healthy, a little obsession is not such a bad thing.

Cocoa is beating the crap out of himself at the gym because if he beat up the person he would liek to beat up he would do a 25 year stetch in the box, feel me?

He will come out of this all a little easier on himself. He can make it through the rain just like MC.

I would move to London I think. I love that city, although much of my memory of it is fading.

I can be that friend too CR...it weirds ppl out because I'm the one people usually bring their problems to. Good friends listen, better friends listen until they can't anymore, and then tell you to shut up.

You will get through it...you're strong...

LOL at Leniere and Caspar! Thanks Joey...it does feel like I'm the go-to guy so when I'm up "that creek" I seem to be treading it quite furiously with my hands...don't ask me what I did with the f*ckin' paddle! :)

Yeah Leniere, 150 is basically the same as 148... I mean, I'd just have to kick off my sandals and lose the towel when I strut the beach, right? Unfortunately, I went from an even 150 to about 158 in 3 weeks and I think it's time to get dedicated and bring that waist back down to a 28...obsessive? Maybe. As Cas mentioned, I usually turn inward and whip that azz when I can't get at what I really want to get at...in this case, I know I can control the weight - moreover, I can slim it down, so pray for me! :)

Today's menu...Brkfst: Activa Blueberry yogurt... Lunch: 6 ozs Grilled Chicken Cutlet a side of plain green beans. A banana and enough water to satiate a small village in Rwanda!...Dinner: Oven roasted turkey sliced thin (4 slices) - no cheese on low carb multi-grain pepperidge farm bread; cup of coffee...Bedtime snack: 1 Allegra-D and 1 Ambien CR; 8 ozs water

I would never leave NYC for any other city in the world...What other city offers a great 4:00AM diner menu (two eggs over easy with cornbeefhash) after dancing your ass off the whole evening, catching a cab, rolling onto your stoop half baked and finding other people coming home at the same time. Sh*t give up New York for another city...No way! "Start spreading the news, I leaving today, I want to be a part of it New York New York, these vagabond shoes are longing to stray and make a brand in start of it New York New York, I want to wake up in the city that never sleeps and find I'm king of the hill, top of heap, these little towns blues are melting away I'll make a brand new start of it in old New York..If I can make it there I'll make it anywhere it's up to you New York New York...(I can hear all of you singing with me).

I love San Juan!! I wish I was going to this years events. I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute. If I was rich and could live any where I want to I think San Juan would be the place.
