Record-Breaking Response
Yesterday's On Blast segment had the highest number of responses for any of our blog postings - 44 at press time. Thank you all for openly sharing your opinions and experiences with the group. An estimated 22% of married men and 14% of married women admitted to having at least one extra marital affair last year. To make matters worse, 70% of married women and 54% of married men were not aware of their spouse's extra marital affairs. The responses on our blog were typical, since 90% of Americans polled believe infidelity is wrong - 17% felt strongly enough about it to want to make infidelity a crime. Last year, an average of 17% of divorces in America were reportedly a direct result of infidelity. There are countless variables and circumstances for all cases of infidelity. It is obviously a hot-button issue across the board. As a survivor of infidelity - on both sides of the fence - I can unequivocally say that it is an extremely complex issue with, sometimes, catastrophic consequences.

Idol Season Four Ends - Prediction On Point
American Idol's season four ended with Carrie Underwood taking the prize. Rocker Bo Bice appeared to receive the most cheers at the Kodak Theater finale, but Underwood held the highest number of votes to win. Underwood joins Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barino and can hope to share their enormous success. Her first single, Inside Your Heaven, will be released on June 14. Sidebar: Anwar! I'm here Boo…you're still the Cocoa Rican's Idol!

Pedestrians Beware
Black Bike Week kicked off yesterday at Atlantic Beach in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The event, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, lasts through May 30. It is expected to attract over 350,000 guests. The outdoor public event features pool parties, beach excursions, barbecues and plenty of biker-hoochies to go around. Over 175,000 bikini-clad women attend the event - none of which are actual bikers, rather biker babes. The Carolina Harley Davidson Dealer Association Bike Rally that immediately precedes the Atlantic Beach Bikefest (Black Biker Week) had five fatalities. Break a leg brothas!

Today we're putting Shey On Blast with: When should it be a problem that someone dates outside his or her race? So stay tuned for our Afternoon Edition.

Good morning Hector. I have a question. Do you think a person is born "gay" or is it a choice?

LaLa... we'll hit this issue up, if not on this afternoon's blast - since we already have a question - then on tomorrow's blast. The answer is a bit more complex (and personal) than most folks may think. Good topic though... :)

You know I love you Papi!

Mr. Cocoa, you have come a little too close to home. I have always been the rainbow coalition “dating” type. I am currently dating outside my race, and I Love that man. God made em’ and I don’t grade em’; but if I had to he would get 99.75 - and I am even accepting the Russian judge’s score. My man is COOL. We send most of our lives wondering why some people treat us differently but, are you guilty of the same nasty ungodly behaviors?
We all seek perfection in others but we all hope, wish and some of us prayer that when the lights come on, the one laying next to us wouldn’t notice and/or be offended by that little pocket of fat or those stretch marks or those love handles, which are not lovely at all. We spend time shaving backs, waxing legs, upper lips, etc. just to look and feel a better about ourselves. But folks in reality the best way to feel better about yourself, the only true way is to feel better about those around us, you! Take a little time to enjoy and embrace our differences, you never know what acceptance may do for you being accepted.

Regards,
J’Moo

I am in NO way prejudice but I think one should date in their own race. We need to keep our race going, whatever that race may be. My daughters' friends are all of a different race and I treat them as though they were my own. I love them dearly but I am against her bringing home a boyfriend of a different race. If she did, I would accept him but I wouldn't prefer it. That is just my personal opinion.

considering that I have four beautiful children of Irisg/Native American/African American heritage, I can say that I am fine with dating outside of my race. My children are beautiful (one is deceased may he rest in peace) - and I believe they have the best of both worlds and are very tolerant kind human beings. Well, my 5 year old daughter is a bit rough but she is kind (ain't that right Cocoa? What color do you think God sees us as (for those who believe in God. Does it matter what color our skin is if we treat each other with love and respect? For those who are against dating outside your race, I say, to each his own but you should try letting your mind open up.

J'Moo and all...
The On Blast questions are NEVER created or steered by me... I simply answer and give my take on YOUR questions. Please know that even when answering the On Blast question I take great care to keep as neutral a perspective as possible. Some questions - including the one LaLa posed in today's Morning Edition comments, do address a facet of my own life, but even then, I attempt (or will attempt) to give my honest, yet open-minded outlook. So, take it easy, don't personalize anything (unless of course one of our folks blatantly attacks you - and quite often, that will happen too) and enjoy our diverse, unfettered discussions. :)
Much Love,
Cocoa

Personally, I think people have the right to be with whomever they choose, whomever makes them happy, life is way to short to live it unhappy or unfulfilled. I also think that if someone is limiting themselves to dating only those outside of their race, that speaks to a problem that person may have with accepting and loving themselves, and if you don't love you, how can someone else love you? Just my thoughts.

Anonymous...kudos to you! Did you know the Arian Nation and the KKK share the same philosophy as you? "Keep the race going" Yeeeee Haaaawwwww!. Come on! So, everyone should be the same color/complexion for the human race to continue. Hmmmmm.
The only negatives I have encountered as a mother of mixed children is I am sometimes asked if I am their Nanny! I laugh most of the time.

As an African-American woman who has dated outside of her race – only one time. I do not have a problem with it. I think you limit yourself and your chance of finding true happiness if you only date within your race. I would not have a problem with my children dating or being married to someone outside of our race.

The only thing I could not get pass was he kept calling his penis a “cock”. That was a major turn-off.

So you are okay with mixed children? I know you are Caspar because you have some but what about everyone else? What race do you tell your children they are?

I have dated outside of my race but I couldn't continue the relationship. I used him for show and I felt bad.

The cultures are so different for blacks and whites and "their" hair stinks when it gets wet. That is why I let my white friend go. It may sound silly but he said he couldn't deal with a woman who didn't wash her hair everyday. I told him that wasn't part of the black culture.

I'm totally okay with having biracial children and grandchildren. And since I'm black, my children and grandchildren would be black. It only takes 1/4...

In response to your question Caspar, it is based on personal preferences. In God's eyes were are all the same color.

Anonymous (who wants to keep the race going), if you love yourself let everyone know who you are. Share with us, please.
I tell my children they are the sons and daughters of kings and queens, and true to life, card carrying members of the human race of course. I have never even conceived of telling my children that they are this or that. So, maybe you share the same views as Hitler as well. Ever hear of the holocaust? Hitler was for "racial purity" as well.
Just to keep it real - I am Irish American/Native American. Their Dad is African American.
And for the anonymous who dated outside of their race and used the person "for show" did you use this person for show because you looked busted four ways till Sunday or did you use this person so you could be "down". I don't get it.
Be with whom you feel most comfortable with, but that whole racial purity thing is a bit scary to me.
